It seems Rohit Sharma has a liking for Sri Lankans not only on the field but also off the field. On the field Rohit Sharma scored two double centuries against Sri Lankan bowling attack.
264 against Sri Lanka in Eden Gardens, Kolkata on 13th November 2014.
208 against Sri Lanka in Mohali, on 13th December 2017.
But Rohit Sharma likes Sri Lanka off the field too.
According to report in The Mid-Day, Rohit Sharma helped Sri Lankan fan Mohamed Nilam by arranging return air ticket to Colombo from New Delhi on December 5th 2017.
Nilam was travelling with the Sri Lankan team throughout this Indian tour. During the final Test in New Delhi Nilam got the news that his father was diagnosed with throat cancer. She had to return immediately but her return ticket was scheduled for December 26th.
When Rohit Sharma heard about this he stepped in and arranged for Nilam’s return air ticket to Colombo which cost approx Rs. 20K.
Nilam said to mid-day “Rohit called me to the team hotel and gave me the ticket. The surgery went well. I was disturbed when I heard about my father’s health, Rohit has a big heart and he immediately arranged for my return ticket. He is a gem of a person“
Not only that Virat Kohli who tied knot with Anushka Sharma and is in Italy now took time to message Nilam and inquire about his father’s health.
Nilam said to Mid-Day “When Virat bhai came to know about my father’s health, he too messaged me and asked if I needed any help. I congratulated Virat bhai on his wedding. I feel blessed and lucky to get so much love from Indian cricketers. They have always been very helpful in arranging match tickets whenever we come to watch them“
